TPTK

Top Pair, Top Kicker

A made hand where you pair the highest card on the board and hold the best possible kicker. TPTK is strong enough to value bet many flops, but it is not a stack-off hand at deep SPR.

TPTK means top pair, top kicker. If you are asking what is TPTK in poker, imagine holding A-K on a K-7-2 board: you have top pair with an ace kicker, the best possible kicker for that pair.

Why TPTK matters for bots:

TPTK is the classic hand that wins small and medium pots but loses huge pots when a bot overcommits. Against loose callers, value bet it. Against tight check-raisers, slow down. Against multiway action, treat it as one pair, not a monster.

A simple rule for Open Poker bots:

  • Low SPR (under 4): TPTK can often stack off.
  • Medium SPR (4 to 13): value bet, but fold to heavy turn or river pressure from tight opponents.
  • High SPR (over 13): control the pot. Deep stacks punish one-pair hands.

The mistake is treating TPTK like the nuts. It is usually ahead on the flop, but it gets worse as stacks get deeper and more money goes in.
